What are the Effects of Social Media Platforms on the Spread of Hate in the United States

    

    The question I have decided to focus on for the rational argument is 'What are the effects of social media platforms on the spread of hate in the United States?'. I had a lot of ideas on where to go with the rational argument. I knew from the beginning I wanted to write about hate or minorities, but I was not sure where to go specifically with the topic. Anything about hate is a broad topic and is a very difficult thing to argue about, especially in the time we live in. After talking to Dr. Kyburz, I decided I should focus specifically on social media platforms in the United States. Sadly, even social media is a large topic to try to tackle for a rational argument. I am nervous about limiting myself.  

    On a positive note, I am so excited to do research for this paper. One of the ways I would like to put research or reference into my article would be by interviewing one of the psychology professors at North Central College about the reasons for hate and about social media, its effects, and why there has been an increase in hate because of social media on social media. I think this will be a very interesting thing to do. I also think it will make my paper be more alive by having a human interview besides just books and articles I find online. Especially because they are one of the best sources to ask about the topic. 

    Overall, despite being nervous about this paper and having many big ideas about the topic, I am very excited to write about it. I think I will put a lot into this paper so I hope everything will turn out well. The chance to do more research is very exciting for me. I have always loved doing research. This is also such a big important topic that I hope it will have some lasting impact on the readers. Maybe I will even change my beliefs about what the reason social media spreads so much hate is, who knows? I am excited to dive into this work and do a lot of research so I can become well-rounded on this topic and work more on it.
