Visual Literacy

    Visual literacy is the ability to understand ideas through images, actions, and writing. This ability helps with finding the deeper meaning of films, photos, shows, novels, and more. I believe that visual literacy helps people further understand art. One of the amazing things about art is the reactions and feelings we have in relation to the art. Visual literacy is the reason we are able to do this. Being able to understand and find the emotion and meaning of art is one of the most joyful things you can do as a human. 

    Art is important to humans and has been since the beginning of time. In hunter and gathering times, people used art. Many assume that hunter and gather society did not used any form of art. Although, that is not actually true. Now in current times, we look back on these art pieces and analysis the meaning behind them. What they are feeling at the time. Visual literacy is a beautiful thing that helps us understand our culture better and how the world was and now is.

    Although, I still do not fully understand visual literacy. I like to speak on its importance. As a history major, I find it important to learn about this that have been important in the past. Visual literacy helps us understand previous cultures better. If it is something that has been important to humans for this many years, why is that? Hopefully I can further understand visual literacy and the historical importance of it.
