What I Learned in the Library
The opportunity to learn in the library was an incredibly helpful experience. I learned a lot of new things about what is considered an academic source. The instructor was very kind and informative. I am so grateful for the chance to learn during my freshman year instead of having to poke around and figure it out myself. This lesson in particular was very helpful to me.
I was getting stressed about what was considered an academic source. To me, there are a lot of things that are considered an academic source. But I am not and was not an expert on academic sources. So, knowing that I needed an academic source but did not know what it was, was causing a bit of anxiety. Luckily, our schools' lovely librarians jumped in to save the day.
During the presentation, I learned what makes an academic source an academic source. Many people consider many different things an academic source. But there is a common overlap to be sure. There are five things that make up an academic source. I found having the list by me when researching to be very helpful. Also, the ability to fact-check that this was indeed an academic source was very calming.
Overall, the experience at the library was a very helpful lesson. I now know what an academic source is for sure. It is very helpful to have this type of lesson in college. The basic information is sometimes hard to find out. Having this, greatly helped me. It was a genuinely helpful experience.
